VHF (Very High Frequency)

In the context of aerospace engineering, VHF (Very High Frequency) refers to the range of radio frequency electromagnetic waves from 30 to 300 MHz, with corresponding wavelengths of ten meters to one meter. VHF is commonly used for a variety of applications in the aerospace industry, including air traffic control communication, navigation, and weather information systems. The VHF band is particularly useful in aerospace applications due to its ability to propagate over long distances and its resistance to interference from buildings and terrain. However, it is limited by line-of-sight restrictions, meaning the transmitting and receiving antennas must be within sight of each other without any significant obstructions. In aviation, VHF is used for both voice communication and navigation. The VHF omnidirectional range (VOR) system is a type of short-range radio navigation system that enables aircraft to determine their position and stay on course by receiving radio signals transmitted by a network of fixed ground radio beacons.
