Radio Frequency


Radio frequency (RF) refers to the range of electromagnetic frequencies above the audio range and below infrared light. In space and astronautical engineering, RF is used for communication, navigation, and remote sensing. RF communication is used to transmit information between spacecraft and ground stations, as well as between spacecraft in orbit. RF navigation is used for spacecraft positioning and tracking, as well as for interplanetary navigation. RF remote sensing is used to gather data about the Earth and other planets, including temperature, atmospheric composition, and surface features. RF technology is also used for power transmission, such as in solar power satellites, and for plasma propulsion, which uses RF energy to ionize propellant and create thrust.
