A spacecraft is a vehicle designed to operate beyond the Earth's atmosphere, carrying crew and/or cargo into space. Spacecraft can be classified into two main categories: manned and unmanned. Manned spacecraft are designed to carry humans into space, while unmanned spacecraft are designed to carry scientific instruments and other cargo. Spacecraft can be launched into space using a variety of methods, including rockets, spaceplanes, and air-launch systems. Once in space, spacecraft can be used for a variety of purposes, including scientific research, communication, navigation, and military applications.
