Power
In space and astronautical engineering, power refers to the ability to generate and distribute electrical energy to support the operation of spacecraft and their subsystems. Power is essential for communication, navigation, scientific instruments, life support systems, and propulsion. Power can be generated by solar panels, fuel cells, batteries, radioisotope thermoelectric generators, and nuclear reactors. The amount of power required depends on the mission objectives, the size and complexity of the spacecraft, and the duration of the mission. Power management and distribution systems are designed to optimize the use of available power and ensure that critical systems receive priority. In addition, power systems must be designed to withstand the harsh environment of space, including radiation, temperature extremes, and micrometeoroids.
