Power Systems
Power Systems in astronautical engineering refer to the systems that generate, store, distribute, and manage electrical power on spacecraft. These systems are critical for the success of any space mission as they power all the electrical equipment on board, including life support systems, communication systems, scientific instruments, and propulsion systems. Power systems can be classified into two types: primary power systems and secondary power systems. Primary power systems generate power from sources such as solar panels, nuclear reactors, or fuel cells. Secondary power systems store and distribute power generated by primary power systems. These systems include batteries, power distribution units, and power management and control systems. Power systems must be designed to be reliable, efficient, and lightweight, as weight is a critical factor in space missions. They must also be able to withstand the harsh space environment, including radiation, extreme temperatures, and vacuum conditions.
