Subsurface Temperature

Subsurface temperature refers to the temperature of the ground or any other planetary body below its surface. In space and astronautical engineering, subsurface temperature is an important parameter to consider when designing and operating spacecraft and planetary rovers. The subsurface temperature can affect the performance and longevity of equipment and instruments, as well as the mobility and safety of rovers. Subsurface temperature can also provide valuable information about the geology and composition of a planetary body. In order to measure subsurface temperature, spacecraft and rovers are equipped with temperature sensors and thermal probes that can penetrate the surface. These instruments can provide data on the temperature gradient and thermal conductivity of the subsurface material.
