Flight Simulation
In the context of aerospace engineering, flight simulation refers to the technological method used to mimic or reproduce the experience of piloting an aircraft in a realistic and safe environment. It is a critical tool in aerospace engineering, used for the design and development of aircraft, training of pilots, and research into aircraft characteristics and control handling qualities. Flight simulators range from computer based games to full size cockpit replicas mounted on hydraulic (or electric) actuators, controlled by state of the art computer technology. They can simulate both the physical sensations of flying and the aircraft's flight characteristics. In engineering, they are used to test flight software and aerodynamic designs, to predict the behavior of the aircraft during flight, and to identify and correct potential issues before the aircraft is actually built. This significantly reduces the risk, cost, and time involved in the development of new aircraft designs.
