Piezoresistive Sensors
Piezoresistive sensors are devices that convert mechanical stress or pressure into an electrical signal. These sensors are widely used in the field of space and astronautical engineering for measuring various physical parameters such as force, acceleration, and pressure. The piezoresistive effect is the change in the electrical resistance of a material when subjected to mechanical stress. In piezoresistive sensors, a thin layer of piezoresistive material is deposited on a flexible substrate. When the sensor is subjected to mechanical stress, the resistance of the piezoresistive material changes, which is then measured as an electrical signal. Piezoresistive sensors are highly sensitive and can measure very small changes in pressure or force. They are also very reliable and can operate in harsh environments such as high temperatures and radiation. Piezoresistive sensors are used in various space applications such as spacecraft propulsion systems, launch vehicles, and satellite attitude control systems.
