Laser Transmitter
A laser transmitter is a device that emits a beam of coherent light through a process of stimulated emission. In space and astronautical engineering, laser transmitters are used for various purposes such as communication, remote sensing, and propulsion. Laser communication systems use laser transmitters to transmit data between spacecraft and ground stations or between spacecraft. Remote sensing applications use laser transmitters to measure distances, velocities, and atmospheric properties of planets, asteroids, and comets. Laser propulsion systems use laser transmitters to propel spacecraft by directing a high-powered laser beam at a sail attached to the spacecraft, which generates thrust. Laser transmitters are preferred over traditional radio frequency transmitters in space applications due to their higher data rates, narrower beam widths, and lower power requirements.
