Ceramic Matrix Composites

Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) are a class of advanced materials that consist of a ceramic matrix reinforced with ceramic fibers. The manufacturing of CMCs involves complex processes such as chemical vapor infiltration, melt infiltration, and polymer infiltration and pyrolysis, which require precise control of temperature, pressure, and gas flow. CMCs are a promising material for future space exploration missions, as they offer the potential for improved performance and reduced weight compared to traditional materials.
