Protection

In space and astronautical engineering, protection refers to the measures taken to ensure the safety and security of spacecraft, crew, and equipment during launch, in orbit, and during re-entry. Protection includes the design and implementation of systems to shield against radiation, micrometeoroids, and debris, as well as the development of emergency procedures and contingency plans in case of system failures or other unexpected events. Protection also encompasses the use of redundant systems and backup equipment to ensure mission success and the safe return of crew and equipment. Additionally, protection involves the development and implementation of protocols to prevent contamination of other celestial bodies with Earth-based microorganisms, as well as measures to prevent the introduction of extraterrestrial materials into Earth's biosphere.
