Swath

In space and astronautical engineering, Swath refers to the width of the area covered by a remote sensing instrument or a radar beam during a single pass over the Earth's surface. It is an important parameter for designing and optimizing remote sensing systems, as it determines the spatial resolution and coverage of the instrument. Swath width is affected by various factors such as the altitude of the satellite, the size and orientation of the instrument, and the frequency of the radar beam. A wider swath allows for larger coverage area but with lower spatial resolution, while a narrower swath provides higher spatial resolution but with smaller coverage area. Therefore, the selection of swath width depends on the specific application and the trade-off between coverage and resolution.
