Spatial Resolution
Spatial resolution refers to the ability of a sensor or imaging system to distinguish between two objects or features that are very close to each other in space. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, spatial resolution is a critical parameter for remote sensing instruments that are used to observe and study the Earth, other planets, and celestial bodies. The spatial resolution of a sensor is determined by its pixel size, which is the smallest unit of measurement in an image. The smaller the pixel size, the higher the spatial resolution and the greater the level of detail that can be captured in an image. High spatial resolution is particularly important for applications such as land use mapping, disaster response, and military surveillance. However, increasing spatial resolution often comes at the cost of reduced coverage area and increased data storage requirements.
