Atmospheric Infrared Sounder

Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) is an advanced instrument onboard NASA's Aqua satellite that measures temperature, humidity, and atmospheric composition from the surface to the upper atmosphere. AIRS uses infrared technology to detect and measure the heat radiated by the Earth and its atmosphere, which allows it to create highly accurate 3D maps of atmospheric temperature and humidity. These maps are used to improve weather forecasting, monitor climate change, and study the Earth's water and energy cycles. AIRS also measures the concentration of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide and methane, which helps scientists better understand the Earth's climate system and how it is changing over time.
