Newton's Laws
In the context of aerospace engineering, Newton's Laws refer to the three fundamental laws of motion proposed by Sir Isaac Newton. These laws are foundational principles in the study of physics and have significant applications in aerospace engineering. The First Law, also known as the Law of Inertia, states that an object at rest tends to stay at rest, and an object in motion tends to stay in motion, unless acted upon by an external force. This principle is crucial in understanding the behavior of spacecraft in the vacuum of space. The Second Law states that the force acting on an object is equal to the mass of that object times its acceleration (F=ma). This law is used in designing propulsion systems for spacecraft. The Third Law, known as the action-reaction law, states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. This principle is used in understanding and designing the propulsion and maneuvering systems of spacecraft, as the expulsion of propellant in one direction (action) propels the spacecraft in the opposite direction (reaction).
