Resistance Training Devices
Resistance Training Devices are equipment designed to provide resistance against muscular contraction, with the aim of improving muscular strength, endurance, and power. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, resistance training devices are used to counteract the negative effects of microgravity on the human body. Prolonged exposure to microgravity can cause muscle atrophy, bone loss, and cardiovascular deconditioning. Resistance training devices help astronauts maintain their physical fitness and prevent these negative effects. Examples of resistance training devices used in space include the Advanced Resistive Exercise Device (ARED) and the Miniature Exercise Device (MED-2). ARED is a multi-purpose device that uses vacuum cylinders to provide resistance, while MED-2 is a smaller device that uses elastic bands.
