Advanced Resistive Exercise Device
The Advanced Resistive Exercise Device (ARED) is a strength training machine designed for use in microgravity environments. It uses vacuum cylinders to provide adjustable resistance for exercises such as squats, deadlifts, and bench presses. The ARED is an important component of the exercise regimen for astronauts on the International Space Station, as it helps to counteract the muscle and bone loss that can occur during long-duration spaceflight. The ARED also has the ability to collect data on the amount of force generated during each exercise, which can be used to monitor an astronaut's progress and adjust their workout routine as needed.
