Strength Training

Strength training is a type of physical exercise that uses resistance to induce muscular contraction, which builds the strength, anaerobic endurance, and size of skeletal muscles. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, strength training is an essential component of an astronaut's physical fitness program. Astronauts must maintain their muscle mass and bone density while in space, as the microgravity environment causes muscle and bone loss. Strength training exercises are designed to target specific muscle groups and can be performed using a variety of equipment, including resistance bands, free weights, and weight machines. Astronauts typically perform strength training exercises for several hours each day while in space, using specialized equipment that is designed to simulate the resistance of gravity. The goal of strength training in space is to maintain the astronaut's physical fitness and prevent muscle and bone loss, which can have serious health consequences upon return to Earth.
