Micrometer (um, Aka Micron)

Micrometer, also known as micron, is a unit of measurement in the metric system that is equal to one millionth of a meter. In space and astronautical engineering, micrometers are commonly used to measure the size of particles, such as dust and debris, that can pose a threat to spacecraft and satellites. Micrometers are also used to measure the thickness of materials used in spacecraft construction, such as thermal insulation and protective coatings. In addition, micrometers are used to measure the accuracy of optical systems, such as telescopes and cameras, that are used to observe and image objects in space.
