Resistance Training

Resistance training is a type of physical exercise that involves the use of resistance to induce muscular contraction, which builds strength, anaerobic endurance, and the size of skeletal muscles. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, resistance training is an essential component of the exercise regimen for astronauts during spaceflight. The lack of gravity in space causes muscle atrophy and bone loss, which can be mitigated through regular resistance training. Astronauts use specialized equipment such as the Advanced Resistive Exercise Device (ARED) to perform exercises that simulate weightlifting and other resistance-based activities. Resistance training is also important for the development of space suits and other equipment that must withstand the rigors of spaceflight.
