Modulation Scheme
Modulation scheme refers to the method of encoding information onto a carrier signal in order to transmit it over a communication channel. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, modulation schemes are used to transmit information between spacecraft and ground stations, as well as between spacecraft in space. The choice of modulation scheme depends on factors such as the available bandwidth, the distance between the transmitter and receiver, and the required data rate. Common modulation schemes used in space communications include binary phase shift keying (BPSK), quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), and differential quadrature phase shift keying (DQPSK). These modulation schemes are often combined with error correction coding to improve the reliability of the communication link.
