Landing Site

A landing site is a designated location on a celestial body where a spacecraft, lander, or rover is intended to land. The selection of a landing site is a critical aspect of any space mission, as it must meet a variety of scientific, engineering, and safety requirements. Factors that are considered when selecting a landing site include the scientific objectives of the mission, the terrain and geology of the landing site, the presence of hazards such as boulders or steep slopes, the availability of sunlight for power generation, and the ability to communicate with Earth. Once a landing site has been selected, the spacecraft must be guided to a precise location within the landing site using a combination of onboard sensors and ground-based tracking. Successful landing on a designated landing site is a major milestone in any space mission, and can provide valuable scientific data and insights into the history and composition of the celestial body.
