Gamma Rays

Gamma rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation that have the highest energy and shortest wavelength in the electromagnetic spectrum. They are produced by the decay of atomic nuclei and can also be created by high-energy processes such as supernova explosions, black hole accretion disks, and gamma-ray bursts. In space and astronautical engineering, gamma rays are used for a variety of purposes such as studying the properties of celestial objects, detecting and mapping radioactive materials on Earth, and sterilizing spacecraft and equipment. Gamma-ray telescopes are used to observe gamma-ray sources in the universe, including active galactic nuclei, pulsars, and gamma-ray bursts. Gamma-ray spectroscopy is used to identify the elements and isotopes present in a sample by analyzing the gamma-ray energy spectrum. Gamma-ray imaging is used to create detailed images of the distribution of gamma-ray sources in space or on Earth.
