Accretion

Accretion is the process by which cosmic dust and gas in the interstellar medium (ISM) come together under the influence of gravity to form larger objects, such as stars, planets, and moons. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, accretion is an important process in the formation of celestial bodies and the evolution of planetary systems. Accretion disks, which are formed around young stars, are also of interest to space engineers as they can give rise to powerful phenomena such as jets and outflows. Accretion is also a key process in the growth of black holes, which are thought to form from the collapse of massive stars. Understanding accretion is therefore crucial for studying the formation and evolution of the universe.
