Fusion Propulsion
Fusion Propulsion is a type of spacecraft propulsion that uses nuclear fusion reactions to generate thrust. In this type of propulsion, hydrogen atoms are fused together to form helium, releasing a large amount of energy in the process. This energy is then used to heat and accelerate a propellant, such as hydrogen or helium, which is expelled out of the back of the spacecraft to generate thrust. Fusion propulsion has the potential to provide much higher specific impulse and exhaust velocities than traditional chemical rockets, which could significantly reduce travel times and enable exploration of the outer solar system and beyond. However, fusion propulsion is still in the experimental stage and faces significant technical challenges, such as achieving sustained fusion reactions and developing lightweight and efficient fusion reactors.
