Vacuole
In space and astronautical engineering, a vacuole refers to a space or cavity within a spacecraft or a component that is intentionally left empty to reduce weight or to serve as a reservoir for fluids. Vacuoles are commonly used in propulsion systems, such as liquid rocket engines, to store propellants. They can also be found in life support systems, where they serve as storage for water or other fluids. In addition, vacuoles can be used in thermal control systems to store phase change materials, which absorb or release heat to maintain a stable temperature within the spacecraft. The design and placement of vacuoles are critical to the overall performance and safety of the spacecraft.
