Sensible Heat Storage

Sensible heat storage is a thermal energy storage technology that involves storing heat in a material's temperature without undergoing a phase change. In space and astronautical engineering, sensible heat storage is used to store thermal energy generated by spacecraft systems during the day and release it at night when the spacecraft is in the shadow of a planet or moon. This technology is also used in space habitats to maintain a comfortable temperature for the crew. Sensible heat storage systems can use a variety of materials such as water, rocks, or ceramics, and can be passive or active. Passive systems rely on natural convection to circulate the heat, while active systems use pumps or fans to move the heat. Sensible heat storage is an important technology for long-duration space missions and can help reduce the reliance on solar panels or nuclear power systems.
