Convection

Convection is the transfer of heat through the movement of fluids (liquids or gases) caused by differences in temperature and density. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, convection plays a crucial role in the design and operation of spacecraft and their components. For example, convection cooling is used to dissipate heat generated by electronic components and other equipment on board spacecraft. Convection also affects the behavior of fluids in microgravity environments, where buoyancy-driven convection is suppressed and other mechanisms, such as thermocapillary convection, become dominant. Understanding and controlling convection is therefore essential for the successful operation of spacecraft and for conducting experiments in space.
