Radiative Forcing

Radiative forcing is the difference between the incoming solar radiation absorbed by the Earth and the energy radiated back to space. Positive radiative forcing indicates warming, while negative radiative forcing indicates cooling. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, radiative forcing is an important factor to consider when designing spacecraft and space habitats. The amount of radiative forcing that a spacecraft or habitat experiences can impact the temperature and energy balance within the system, which can affect the performance and longevity of the equipment and the health and safety of the crew. Radiative forcing can be influenced by a variety of factors, including the composition of the atmosphere, the reflectivity of the surface, and the presence of greenhouse gases.
