Radiation Shielding

Radiation shielding is the use of materials to protect humans and electronic devices from harmful radiation. In space and astronautical engineering, radiation shielding is crucial to protect astronauts and spacecraft from the harmful effects of cosmic radiation, solar flares, and other forms of ionizing radiation. The shielding materials can be passive, such as lead or concrete, or active, such as electromagnetic fields or plasma shields. The effectiveness of the shielding depends on the type and energy of the radiation, the thickness and composition of the shielding material, and the duration of exposure. Radiation shielding is a critical aspect of space exploration and colonization, as prolonged exposure to radiation can cause cancer, genetic mutations, and other health problems.
