Kessler Syndrome
Kessler Syndrome is a theoretical scenario in which the density of objects in low Earth orbit (LEO) is so high that collisions between objects could cause a cascade of collisions, generating a large amount of debris that could render space activities in LEO unfeasible for many generations. The debris generated by the collisions would create a cloud of fragments that would collide with other objects, generating even more debris and increasing the likelihood of further collisions. The Kessler Syndrome is a major concern for space agencies and companies that operate in LEO, as it could severely impact the use of space for communication, navigation, Earth observation, and other applications.
