Phasing

Phasing is the process of aligning two or more spacecraft in the same orbit, or in different orbits, so that they are in the same location at the same time. This is important for a variety of reasons, including the ability to perform coordinated observations of a target, to perform formation flying maneuvers, and to dock or rendezvous with another spacecraft. Phasing can be achieved through a variety of methods, including adjusting the orbital period, changing the inclination, or using propulsion systems to adjust the spacecraft's position. The process of phasing requires precise calculations and coordination between ground-based mission control and the spacecraft's onboard systems.
