Optimal Estimator

In space and astronautical engineering, an optimal estimator is a mathematical algorithm that processes sensor data to estimate the state of a spacecraft or a system. The optimal estimator uses a model of the system and the measurements from sensors to estimate the state of the system with the minimum possible error. The optimal estimator takes into account the noise and uncertainties in the measurements and the model to provide the best estimate of the system state. The most common type of optimal estimator used in space and astronautical engineering is the Kalman filter, which is widely used in spacecraft navigation, attitude determination, and control systems.
