Optical Devices

Optical devices refer to instruments and equipment that use or manipulate light in the space and astronautical engineering context. These devices include telescopes, cameras, spectrometers, lidars, and laser communication systems. Telescopes are used to observe celestial objects and phenomena, while cameras capture images of planets, stars, and galaxies. Spectrometers analyze the composition of celestial bodies by measuring the wavelengths of light they emit or absorb. Lidars use laser beams to measure distances and map the surfaces of planets and moons. Laser communication systems transmit data between spacecraft and ground stations using laser beams, which offer higher bandwidth and more secure communication than traditional radio waves.
