Spectrometers
Spectrometers are instruments used to measure the properties of light over a specific portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, spectrometers are used to analyze the composition of celestial bodies and their atmospheres. They work by separating light into its component wavelengths and measuring the intensity of each wavelength. This data can be used to identify the chemical composition of the object being studied, as different elements and compounds absorb and emit light at specific wavelengths. Spectrometers are used in a variety of space missions, including remote sensing of planets and moons, studying the composition of stars and galaxies, and analyzing the properties of the interstellar medium.
