Meteoroid
In space and astronautical engineering, a meteoroid is a small rocky or metallic body in space, typically smaller than an asteroid and larger than a molecule. Meteoroids are often remnants of comets or asteroids and can range in size from tiny grains to objects several meters in diameter. When a meteoroid enters the Earth's atmosphere, it becomes a meteor or shooting star, producing a streak of light as it burns up due to friction with the air. Meteoroids can pose a hazard to spacecraft and satellites in orbit, as they can cause damage upon impact. Studying meteoroids can provide valuable information about the formation and evolution of the solar system.
