Massive Stars

Massive stars are celestial objects that have a mass greater than 8 times the mass of the Sun. They are characterized by their high luminosity, which is a result of their high rate of energy production through nuclear fusion. Massive stars have a relatively short lifespan, ranging from a few million to a few hundred thousand years, and end their lives in spectacular supernova explosions. These explosions are responsible for the creation of heavy elements, such as gold and platinum, which are dispersed into the surrounding interstellar medium. Massive stars also play a crucial role in the evolution of galaxies, as their supernova explosions can trigger the formation of new stars and influence the dynamics of the interstellar gas.
