Lanthanides

Lanthanides are a group of 15 metallic elements with atomic numbers 57 through 71. They are commonly referred to as rare earth elements and are found in the Earth's crust. Lanthanides have unique magnetic, electrical, and optical properties that make them useful in a variety of applications, including in the production of magnets, batteries, and electronics. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, lanthanides are used in the manufacturing of spacecraft components, such as superalloys, which are used in rocket engines and other high-temperature applications. Lanthanides are also used in the production of radiation-resistant materials, which are essential for protecting astronauts and spacecraft from the harmful effects of cosmic radiation.
