Ingress Protection

Ingress Protection (IP) is a rating system used to classify the degree of protection provided by an enclosure or housing for electrical equipment against the intrusion of solid objects, dust, accidental contact, and water. The IP rating consists of two digits, the first indicating the level of protection against solid objects and the second indicating the level of protection against liquids. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, IP rating is an important consideration for the design and construction of spacecraft and their components, as they must be able to withstand the harsh conditions of space and protect sensitive electronics from dust, debris, and moisture. The IP rating is also important for spacesuits and other equipment used by astronauts during spacewalks, as they must be able to withstand exposure to the vacuum of space and protect the wearer from harmful radiation.
