Heat Shield Protection

Heat Shield Protection is a technology used to protect spacecraft and astronauts from the extreme heat generated during atmospheric re-entry. The heat shield is designed to absorb and dissipate the heat, preventing it from reaching the spacecraft and its occupants. The heat shield is typically made of materials such as ablative materials, ceramic tiles, or reinforced carbon-carbon composites. During re-entry, the heat shield is positioned facing the direction of travel, allowing it to absorb the heat generated by friction with the atmosphere. The heat shield gradually erodes as it absorbs the heat, but this erosion is carefully controlled to ensure that the spacecraft and its occupants remain safe. Heat Shield Protection is a critical technology for manned spaceflight, as it allows spacecraft to safely return to Earth from orbit.
