DXA Scan

DXA (Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) scan is a medical imaging technique that uses X-rays to measure bone mineral density (BMD). It is commonly used to diagnose osteoporosis and assess the risk of bone fractures. In space and astronautical engineering context, DXA scan is used to monitor the bone health of astronauts during long-duration space missions, as microgravity can cause bone loss and increase the risk of fractures. DXA scan is also used to evaluate the effectiveness of countermeasures, such as exercise and medication, to prevent bone loss in space.
