Bone Loss

Bone loss is a condition that occurs when the body loses too much bone mass and/or makes too little bone. This can happen due to various factors such as aging, hormonal changes, lack of physical activity, and certain medical conditions. In space and astronautical engineering context, bone loss is a major concern for astronauts who spend extended periods of time in microgravity environments. In microgravity, the lack of weight-bearing activities causes bones to lose density and strength, leading to an increased risk of fractures and other bone-related issues. To combat bone loss, astronauts engage in exercise programs and take supplements such as vitamin D and calcium. Additionally, researchers are exploring new technologies such as artificial gravity and advanced exercise equipment to help mitigate the effects of microgravity on bone health.
