Conduction

In space and astronautical engineering, conduction refers to the transfer of heat between two objects that are in direct contact with each other. This transfer occurs due to the temperature difference between the two objects, with heat flowing from the hotter object to the cooler object. Conduction is an important mechanism for controlling the temperature of spacecraft and their components, as well as for managing the thermal environment of astronauts during spacewalks. Engineers use materials with high thermal conductivity, such as copper and aluminum, to facilitate heat transfer through conduction. They also design thermal control systems that use heat pipes and other devices to efficiently distribute heat throughout a spacecraft or component. In addition, conduction plays a role in the operation of some scientific instruments, such as thermal sensors and infrared cameras, which rely on temperature differences to detect and measure radiation.
