Bone Marrow

In space and astronautical engineering context, bone marrow refers to the spongy tissue inside some of the bones in the human body that produces blood cells. Exposure to microgravity during spaceflight has been shown to cause a decrease in bone marrow production, leading to a weakened immune system and increased risk of infection. To mitigate this effect, astronauts engage in regular exercise and take supplements to maintain bone density and prevent bone loss. Additionally, research is being conducted on the use of artificial gravity and other countermeasures to prevent bone marrow suppression during long-duration space missions.
