Adhesive Bonding

Adhesive bonding is a process of joining two or more surfaces together using an adhesive material. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, adhesive bonding is a commonly used technique for assembling and repairing spacecraft and their components. Adhesive bonding offers several advantages over traditional mechanical fastening methods, including reduced weight, improved structural integrity, and increased resistance to vibration and thermal cycling. Adhesive bonding is also used to attach thermal protection systems to spacecraft, as well as to bond solar panels and other external components to the spacecraft body. The success of adhesive bonding in space applications depends on the ability of the adhesive to withstand the harsh space environment, including exposure to radiation, extreme temperatures, and vacuum conditions.
