X-ray Telescopes
X-ray telescopes are instruments designed to observe and capture high-energy X-ray radiation emitted by celestial objects such as black holes, neutron stars, and active galactic nuclei. Unlike optical telescopes, X-ray telescopes use grazing incidence mirrors to reflect and focus X-rays onto a detector. The mirrors are coated with a thin layer of heavy metal, such as gold or platinum, to enhance their reflectivity. The detector is typically a charge-coupled device (CCD) or a microchannel plate detector (MCP), which converts the X-rays into electrical signals that can be processed and analyzed. X-ray telescopes are used to study the high-energy processes that occur in the universe, such as accretion disks, supernova remnants, and galaxy clusters.
