Treaty
In the context of space and astronautical engineering, a treaty is a formal agreement between two or more nations that regulates activities in outer space. The most well-known treaty in this field is the Outer Space Treaty of 1967, which established the principles of peaceful exploration and use of outer space, prohibited the placement of weapons of mass destruction in orbit or on celestial bodies, and declared that outer space is not subject to national appropriation. Other important treaties include the Rescue Agreement of 1968, which obligates signatories to provide assistance to astronauts in distress, and the Liability Convention of 1972, which establishes the liability of states for damage caused by their space objects. Treaties play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, security, and sustainability of space activities, as well as in promoting international cooperation and collaboration in this field.
