Thyristors

Thyristors are semiconductor devices that are used as switches, rectifiers, and voltage regulators in various electrical and electronic circuits. They are made of four layers of alternating P-type and N-type materials, and have three terminals: an anode, a cathode, and a gate. Thyristors are capable of handling high voltages and currents, and can be triggered into conduction by a small current or voltage applied to the gate terminal. Once triggered, thyristors remain in the conducting state until the current flowing through them drops below a certain threshold level. Thyristors are widely used in power electronics applications, such as motor control, lighting control, and power supplies, as well as in high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems and other high-power applications.
