Supercritical
Supercritical refers to a state where a fluid is at a temperature and pressure above its critical point, which is the highest temperature and pressure at which the fluid can exist as a liquid and a gas in equilibrium. In space and astronautical engineering, supercritical fluids are used in propulsion systems, specifically in rocket engines. Supercritical propellants, such as liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen, offer higher performance and efficiency compared to their subcritical counterparts. They also have the ability to self-pressurize, eliminating the need for a separate pressurization system. However, the use of supercritical fluids in rocket engines requires advanced materials and manufacturing techniques to withstand the high temperatures and pressures involved.
