Acoustic Loads

Acoustic loads refer to the pressure waves generated by the launch vehicle during liftoff and ascent that can cause structural vibrations and damage to the spacecraft. These pressure waves are created by the interaction of the exhaust plume with the surrounding atmosphere and can reach levels of up to 160 decibels. Acoustic loads are a critical design consideration for spacecraft and launch vehicles, as they can cause structural fatigue, failure of electronic components, and even injury to astronauts. Engineers use a variety of techniques to mitigate acoustic loads, including the use of acoustic blankets, vibration isolation systems, and careful placement of sensitive components. Testing is also conducted to ensure that the spacecraft can withstand the acoustic loads during launch and ascent.
